E.M.P.O.W.E.R. SCOTLAND  (Ethnic Minority Participating in Wider Economic Responsibilities)

Objectives
Empower Scotland is a Minority Ethnic Partnership conceived to promote, develop and implement new ways of combating discrimination and inequality in the labour market through different innovative approaches applied locally, nationally and across Europe beside providing opportunities to promote economical and social potential for ethnic minorities.

Mainstreaming Outcomes

In Round 1 Empower Scotland DP achieved encoraging results in terms of engaging BEM people in the labour market.
Minority ethnic women into work conference was successful in engaging with policy makers and in trageting employment areas seen as non-traditional for minority ethnic women. 
4E's conference was an important mainstreaming opportunity that led to engagement of policy makers and creation of network of contacts.

1st Scottish Empowerment Awards
The Awards were developed and hosted by the Empower.
Scotland DP as part of the Equal Programme. The Awards were promoted as an opportunity for Black Minority Ethnic individuals, organisations and businesses to be recognised and rewarded for their contribution to Scotland and its economy. In November 2005, the 2nd annual awards took place and were funded entirely by contributions from agencies such as British Telecom, Scottish Power and Glasgow City Council. It is envisaged that the awards will become an annual event.

Race, Employment & Empowerment Training (REET)
REET is a new Europe wide recognised qualification developed due to the identification of persistent discrimination in the work place experienced by BME migrants/immigrants. REET is now available on-line on the DP website, Equal4all.org and is self-funded through the fee paid by the organisations who access the course.
The REE Training was designed, tested and delivered with the contribution of Black Community Development Project that has evolved out of collaborative action to tackle racism by Muirhouse Anti-Racism Campaign (MARC) and the Pilton Community Education Team.

“Managing Ethnic Diversity in the Workplace” is a generic ethnic diversity training module developed and piloted by Black Environment Network. The training has successfully created new opportunities for BME communities in relation to access to the Environment and Heritage Sectors where the module is now being used.

Empower Scotland DP developed the Equal4all website that now is live. This is continuing to grow and will be funded through sponsorship, advertising and various funding streams for accessing and providing content. It is likely that Equal4all will continue to grow very rapidly and be a valuable tool for dissemination.

The Centre for Human Ecology is about uncovering and understanding the connections between personal action, social systems and the ecology of the planet of which we are part.
CHE conducted a research named the Dream Job and he report was largerly disseminated.

Meridian Black Ethnic Minority developed an Employment Guidance and Support Tailored for women.
Four types of guidance are now available to suit every client looking for work; short listed and want help before the interview or those looking to improve their employment prospects. The project was successfully disseminated amongst Policy makers and employment services from Scottish Executive, Scottish Enterprise, Glasgow City Council, Jobcentre Plus as well as Commission for Racial Equality.

Skillnet Edinburgh
Working in partnership with Telford College, Jewel & Esk Valley College, Stevenson College, Napier University, Edinburgh University Skillnet Edinburgh established a network of training and employment providers whose expertise can be used by people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds. A successful cooperation was also put in place with Edinburgh Council, Social Work Department & The NHS to provide work experience for candidates.
